North Carolina’s official website has announced an updated contract for Davis, which was agreed upon in July and signed in December. It pays Davis an average of $3.2 million in base salary and auxiliary pay—up from around $2 million in the previous deal signed in July 2022. The extension will keep the coach in Chapel Hill through the 2027–28 season.
The base salary was raised from $400,000 to $1.25 million per year and includes $750,000 in additional compensation from an apparel partnership with Nike and a television rights deal with Learfield. Davis also receives a $50,000 expenditure allowance and a further $1.25 million in annual feasible incentives.
To adapt to the evolving context of college athletics—especially after the implementation of NIL regulations, Davis revealed plans to expand the basketball staff by adding a General Manager role.
Jim Tanner, a notable UNC graduate and successful sports agent, has been chosen to serve alongside the team.
Davis explained in a recent statement that Tanner’s significant experience with athlete representation is expected to help him work through NIL challenges and enhance player development.
“Jim’s experience and knowledge are needed in helping us navigate contracts, the transfer portal, and the advancement of this program,” Davis explained.
