UConn Basketball Recruiting: Dan Hurley In Line To Secure 5-Star Recruit As UNC, St. John’s Interest Cools Down

In a positive development for Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies, five-star recruit Dylan Mingo is set to visit Storrs this weekend. Mingo is the top recruit out of the state of New York and a top 10 recruit in the nation. He’s currently ranked as the third-best combo guard in the country and the sixth-best overall prospect in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports.

In an interview with Rivals.com earlier in the summer, Mingo said his recruitment process will likely take some time, as he wants to play under a coach who truly values him.

”I’ll probably take anywhere between five to eight visits,” Mingo said. “I’ll probably bring going on them anywhere from after Peach Jam to probably November, or December. If it goes well, I’ll most likely commit before my season.”

“I want to play for a coach that values me a lot,” Mingo said. “Well, not even just the coach, the whole program. I want to have a strong relationship with the coaches, especially the head coach, and the whole coaching staff. And a winning program. I’d like to compete for a championship, and also a program that’s willing to play a freshman.”

Dan Hurley Thought About Resigning From The UConn Huskies During Offseason

At one point during the offseason, the UConn Huskies head coach contemplated resigning from the team.

The details have been revealed in Hurley’s new book, “Never Stop: Life, Leadership, and What It Takes To Be Great”, which he co-wrote with The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor.

“I thought about leaving,” Hurley wrote. “Taking a gap year. Resigning as head coach of the UConn Huskies.”

In the book, he also recounted how he felt during the offseason following the Huskies’ early exit from the NCAA tournament in the 2024-25 season, explaining that he felt like a failure for the team and fans.

He also weighed in on the modern realities of college sports, NIL, and the transfer portal, and allowing players to freely move among programs.
