Is Tucker DeVries Related to Darian DeVries?

DeVries grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and attended Elkhorn South High School before moving to Waukee, Iowa, and enrolling at Waukee High School.

    Why?

His father, Darian DeVries, was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at Drake University.

At Waukee, Tucker played alongside future Iowa Hawkeyes Payton and Pryce Sandfort and future Iowa State Cyclone Omaha Billiew. In his senior year, he was named Iowa Mr. Basketball after averaging 18.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. He was rated a four-star recruit, the best in Iowa for his class.

Tucker committed to Drake to play for his father over power conference offers from Iowa State, Oregon, and Creighton.

At Drake, Tucker starred, earning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and second-team all-conference honors. After his sophomore year, he earned MVC Player of the Year honors and was named the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball tournament Most Valuable Player, scoring 22 points in the final against Bradley.

In his junior campaign, Tucker was once again named MVC Player of the Year and repeated as MVC men’s basketball tournament MVP after scoring 27 points in a 2024 championship game win over Indiana State.

In 2024, when Darian was hired by West Virginia, Tucker once again moved with him, following his father to Morgantown. He played in eight games before a December injury sidelined him for the season.
