He immediately became a highly sought-after prospect in doing so. Look to these potential landing spots to secure his service.
Villanova
With current New Mexico head coach Richard Pitino reportedly a candidate to take over at Villanova, Washington could follow. The guard saw his minutes and production increase under Pitino and may seek continuity as he enters the next phase of his college career.
Xavier
Pitino has also been connected to the coaching vacancy at Xavier. If the Villanova job doesn’t materialize, Washington could follow his coach to Cincinnati instead.
Arizona State
Bobby Hurley and the Sun Devils recruited Washington out of high school and could revisit their interest. Arizona State is expected to lose its top two guards — BJ Freeman and Alston Mason — to graduation, and Joson Sanon announced his entry into the portal Monday. That opens up backcourt opportunities for the Phoenix native.
Ole Miss
The Rebels are expected to lose their top five guards — all seniors — following the season. With TJ Caldwell also entering the portal Monday, the Sweet 16 program could be in the market for backcourt reinforcements.
Assistant coach Mark Adams recruited Washington out of high school while at Texas Tech, where many projections initially had Washington landing. A reunion could now be on the table.
LSU
LSU is set to lose three of its top four guards to graduation and another two to the portal. The Tigers previously showed interest in Washington during his recruitment.
