Top 10 College Basketball Mascots You Need To Know in 2025

March Madness is almost here, and while all eyes will be focused on the coaches and players, we must not forget the most important figure on each team: the Mascot.

There are so many good mascots in college athletics that it’s tough to narrow it down to choose the best ones, but nonetheless, here are the top 10 college basketball mascots in the NCAA tournament.

College Sports Network’s CBB Power Rankings analyze every team’s strength in a proprietary ranking system, from No. 1 to No. 364. Who are the real contenders?

Top College Basketball Mascots You Need To Know for March Madness

    10) Griff, Drake Bulldogs

I have a soft spot for live mascots and the best one in the tournament this year is Griff, who is the bulldog mascot for Drake. Not only is Griff adorable but he’s iconic and I think Drake is poised to make some noise in the tournament this year.

    9) Aubie, Auburn Tigers

Tiger Mascots are so common, but my favorite is Abuie. He’s the perfect amount of intimidating and wholesome, not to mention we should be seeing a lot of him with how good the Tigers are this year

    8) The Duck, Oregon Ducks

If this were a most iconic mascot list, I think the Oregon Duck would have to be in the top five. Everyone knows him; he rides a motorcycle, and he’s just the man. Also, Oregon probably has their best team since 2021, so I expect the duck to fired up this year

    7) Albert and Alberta, Florida Gators

What’s better than one mascot? Two. Albert and Alberta are the male and female gator mascots for Florida and are the best dynamic duo in all college mascoting. Expect these two to be getting fans hyped on the court all tournament long

    6) Bucky, Wisconsin Badgers

I don’t exactly know why, but Bucky is one of my all-time favorites. A Badger is such a rare mascot, and whoever designed him nailed it.

    5) Big Blue, Utah State Aggies

Got to shout out the mountain west, and not only are the Aggies in the tournament this year but they have the best mascot in the conference. Big Blue kind of looks like an abomination, but I’m a huge fan.

    4) Rowdy, McNeese State Cowboys

McNeese is one of the best stories in college basketball this season and thank god they have a sick mascot to make them even easier to root for. Hopefully Rowdy lives up to his name this tournament season.

    3) Zippy, Akron Zips

The Akron Zips are named after a zipper manufacturer located in Akron. However, their mascot is an iconic female Kangaroo. While it makes zero sense, I love it.

    2) Cosmo, BYU Cougars

If you haven’t seem Cosmo the Cougar try and succeed at some ridiculous stunts, look it up. This guy puts his life on the line and is the most athletic mascot in all of college athletics.

    1) Sparty, Michigan State Spartans

I don’t think there is a more iconic or better mascot in college basketball than Sparty.

Sparty will always be near the top of any mascot list, but with the Spartans and Izzo feeling like the team of destiny this year, I’m putting him at one.
