The Dallas Mavericks have fired general manager Nico Harrison. The Mavericks had a disappointing 2024-25 season despite a roster filled with some big names in the NBA. However, injuries prevented celebrations in Dallas. The Mavericks failed to qualify for the playoffs with a 39-43 record and a 10th-place finish in the Western Conference.
2024 also saw Mark Cuban leave the minority ownership of the Dallas Mavericks. The situation worsened when the Mavericks started trading in the offseason. All hell broke loose in Dallas when GM Nico Harrison reportedly pushed to trade franchise superstar and fan favorite Luka Doncic. Everyone deemed the Lakers to be the winners in the trade.
Cooper Flagg’s arrival in the 2025 NBA Draft as the No. 1 pick had given some excitement to the Mavs. However, their bad form continued. Even with Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Cooper Flagg together, they are far from finding their rhythm. Analyst Stephen A. Smith has blamed former Lakers star Anthony Davis for that.
“The tray is looking even more and more disastrous right now. Because Cooper Flagg is gonna be special and you know that. Kyrie comes back, they’ll look differently. But I said this so many occasions, it’s gonna come down to how Anthony Davis looks. Anthony Davis can’t be ordinary,” he said.
“He has to be spectacular. Because if he is spectacular averaging 28 and 12, if he did something like that, like he was capable of and he was available then Dallas would be winning more games and they wouldn’t be in this situation,” Stephen A. Smith said about Anthony Davis.

Stephen A. Smith Reacts to Dallas Mavericks’ GM Nico Harrison’s Firing
Stephen A. Smith shared his take on the Mavericks’ firing of Nico Harrison.
“Sorry for Nico Harrison. Good dude but at the end of the day, you traded Luka Doncic,” he said.
“And you trading Luka Doncic, you can’t be 3 and 8 on the season with Anthony Davis already missing 3 games. And having minimal impact in the success of the Dallas Mavericks while Kyrie Irving is out injured. While Luka Doncic is averaging 40. And is a leading candidate along with Victor Wembanyama for league MVP honors,” Smith added.
