SMU Lands Second-Team All-Ivy League Grad Transfer Nana Owusu-Anane From the Brown Bears

After a solid senior season with the Brown Bears in 2023-24, Nana Owusu-Anane has reportedly announced his intentions of transferring to join the SMU Mustangs prior to the 2025-26 season.

College basketball insider Jeff Goodman was the first to report the news.

The Ontario native proved himself to be one of the best players in the Ivy League last season despite being on a Brown team that finished 13-18 overall.

Uwusu-Anane has missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season due to a torn labrum but is expected to be at full strength for the Mustangs during preparations for next season.

This season, SMU finished with a 22-9 overall record and 13-7 in the ACC, good for fourth in the conference standings. Yet head coach Andy Enfield’s squad is still considered outside of the NCAA Tournament field due to the weak ACC field this season.

Looking ahead to next season, Owusu-Anane will provide scoring down low, as evidenced by his 14.7 points per game last season. He was also a huge presence on the boards, securing 8.8 rebounds per game. His 2.1 assists per game showcased his ability to deftly pass the ball when opponents centered their coverage on him.

The 6’8″ forward also improved his three-point shot, hitting 31.0% on 2.3 attempts per game. While that mark is still below average, his height requires him to be able to step outside and hit a shot every once in a while.

Owusu-Anane doesn’t have a considerable amount of heft at only 220 pounds, which may be a problem in a major conference like the ACC.

Regardless, SMU is excited after securing a proven and accomplished forward who, as an Ivy League graduate, will bring high character off the court, toughness, and the ability to contribute right away on it.
