Record-Breaking Performance by Sheldon Edwards Jr.

Edwards Jr. entered the night needing just three three-pointers to break the single-season record, and he wasted no time achieving that milestone. Within the first five minutes of play, he drilled four consecutive shots from beyond the arc.

This included the record-breaking triple at the 15:21 mark. His scoring spree helped Loyola Chicago take an early 19-6 lead, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

By the final buzzer, Edwards Jr. had recorded his first career double-double for Loyola Chicago, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Impressively, all seven of his field goals came from three-point range, as he went 7-for-12 from deep.

His outstanding shooting display tied him with six other Ramblers for the second-most made three-pointers in a single game in program history. Now holding the Loyola Chicago single-season record with 90 three-pointers made, he will have an opportunity to extend that tally in the final regular-season game.

However, Edwards Jr. was not the only standout performer for Loyola Chicago. Kymany Houinsou stepped up with a career-high 19 points, shooting an incredible 7-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

His dominant start to the second half played a crucial role in ensuring the Ramblers maintained control of the game. Jayden Dawson added 17 points, including five three-pointers, while Miles Rubin contributed nine points and led the team with four blocks.

Loyola Chicago’s Early Surge and Davidson’s Fightback

The Ramblers came out firing in the first half, jumping to a commanding 21-6 lead after a 15-1 scoring run. Edwards Jr.’s early three-point barrage fueled the offensive explosion, while Loyola Chicago’s defense suffocated Davidson’s shooters. However, the Wildcats refused to back down, responding with a 14-0 run late in the first half to briefly take a 35-34 lead.

Houinsou’s strong play helped Loyola Chicago regain momentum just before halftime, and a late three-point play gave them a 37-35 edge. Davidson’s Connor Kochera then tied the game at 37 heading into the break, setting the stage for a competitive second half.

After halftime, Loyola Chicago came out with renewed energy, led by Houinsou, who scored the first eight points of the second half. His second-chance dunk extended the Ramblers’ lead to seven, and from there, the team never looked back.

Dawson and Watson connected on back-to-back shots to give Loyola a comfortable 12-point cushion, and Dawson’s three-pointer extended the lead to 19 with 9:50 remaining.

With the win, Loyola Chicago improved to 20-10 overall and 11-6 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. This marked the third 20-win season under head coach Drew Valentine and the seventh overall since his arrival. The team’s 16 home victories also stand as their most in a single season since 1965-66.

Loyola Chicago will now turn its attention to its final regular-season game against UMass on Saturday, looking to build momentum heading into the A-10 Tournament.
