Sean Miller To Bring Familiar Faces to Texas Staff: Chris Ogden, Adam Cohen, David Miller, and Ryan Anderson Join Longhorns

Just weeks after knocking Texas out of the NCAA Tournament, Sean Miller has taken over as the Longhorns’ head coach—and he’s bringing his own crew with him.

Miller and his Xavier team defeated Texas 86-80 in the First Four, a loss that contributed to the firing of Rodney Terry. Now, Miller is stepping into the role Terry vacated, quickly assembling a staff filled with familiar faces from his previous job.

    Rodney Terry’s Departure

Terry was dismissed after 13 years with the program, first as an assistant and then as head coach for three seasons.

“I am so appreciative to have served the University of Texas and our men’s basketball program for 13 seasons,” Terry said in a statement. “It was a dream of mine to be the head coach of the Longhorns, and I’ve been able to live that dream. I want to thank all of our coaches and current and former players who not only helped us win a lot of games but, more importantly, represented this great university in a first-class manner.”

    Miller’s Coaching Staff at Texas

It’s common for new head coaches to overhaul a program’s coaching staff, and Miller is no exception. He has retained just one member from the previous staff while bringing in multiple familiar names from Xavier.

Miller’s Texas staff includes Adam Cohen, Ryan Anderson, Ryan Reynolds, and David Miller—all of whom worked with him at Xavier.

Ryan Anderson served as Xavier’s recruiting coordinator and has been promoted to assistant coach at Texas.

David Miller will continue in his role as an assistant coach.

Adam Cohen was the associate head coach at Xavier and will take on a key role in Austin.

Ryan Reynolds, formerly a special assistant to the head coach at Xavier, will serve as Texas’ director of basketball operations.

Chris Ogden, the lone holdover from Terry’s staff, remains as general manager. A Texas alumnus, Ogden played for Rick Barnes from 1999 to 2003 before returning to the program in 2021.

Miller has had two stints as Xavier’s head coach (2004-09, 2022-25), leading the Musketeers to five NCAA Tournament appearances, with four coming during his first tenure. He won three Atlantic 10 regular-season titles and an A-10 tournament championship.

Now, he takes over a Texas program looking to rebound from an early tournament exit, with a staff built around familiarity and continuity from his time at Xavier.
