It is back to the drawing board for Matt Painter’s Purdue Boilermakers. After entering the NCAA National Championship Tournament as a No. 2 seed and making it all the way to the Elite Eight, they were eliminated by the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats. With some players possibly entering the transfer portal, where do the Boilermakers stand in terms of their high school recruitment?
Currently, Purdue has five recruits, four of whom have already signed, and one is already committing. The program is known to develop big men, so three of them are all centers, along with one point guard and one small forward. All of them have been rated four-star recruits by ESPN, three of them being Top 100 recruits.
Their highest-rated recruit by ESPN is point guard Luke Ertel from Mount Vernon High School in Indiana, ranked No. 46 in the Class of 2026. This is followed by small forward Jacob Webber from La Lumiere, also in Indiana, the No. 82 recruit from 2026, and then Sinan Huan from Georgetown Prep, a seven-foot center ranked No. 83 in the nation.
Webber’s La Lumiere teammate, center Rivers Knight, also a four-star recruit, and four-star center Jamyn Sondrup from Spriville High School in Utah, complete the list of Purdue’s recruits so far.
With how well the team did in reaching the Elite Eight, there is a possibility that more recruits will be announcing their commitments to the Boilermakers in the days to come. They may also reach for the transfer portal, but it does not open until April 7, after the national championship game.
Purdue Targets That Are Still Have Not Committed To Any Team Yet
Purdue still has eight targets that have not yet chosen to go to any team from the Class of 2026. The biggest name is No. 8 recruit Reese Alston, a five-star point guard and son of former NBA star Rafer Alston. 247Sports reports that he is warming up to Purdue, but has not committed yet.
Four-star center Darius Wabbington from Sunnyslope High School in Arizona is also warming up to Purdue, especially with their program known for big man development. However, six others may not be warming up to the Boilermakers just yet.
Three-star power forward Kager Knueppel, as well as four-star point guards Jason Gardner Jr., Kevin Savage, Jaxson Davis and Chase Richardson, have all received offers from Purdue but have so far not shown much interest in the program.
