With the announcement that the Dallas Mavericks have fired their polarizing general manager in Nico Harrison, several reports have since come out regarding his tenure there. On Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Dallas-based franchise announced that they have relieved Harrison from his position after over four years since he was initially hired back in 2021. This development comes just a few games into the 2025-26 season.
On the same day, a report by @TheDunkCentral that through reporter Jake Fischer, several members of the 2025-26 Mavericks roster and even personnel all throughout the franchise found it much more difficult to play at home than on the road. The odd perception is due to the fact that there are deafening and overwhelming “Fire Nico” chants that occur during their games on their home court, the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Mavericks personnel reportedly felt that playing at home was harder than being on the road because of the overwhelming “Fire Nico” chants, per @JakeLFischer pic.twitter.com/YYZI64yQ3r

Fischer’s exact report, also on X/Twitter, confirms that he got the report based on the fact that it was the biggest takeaway he got from being in the team’s locker room during their six-point win, 111-105, against the Washington Wizards in away territory, the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., on Saturday, Nov. 8.
My biggest takeaway from being in the Mavericks’ locker room and around team personnel on Saturday in D.C. was Dallas folks saying it was more difficult to get through home games and the deafening “Fire Nico” chants than to play on the road. https://t.co/Bx13j2Pgq0

The firing of Harrison from being one of the higher-ups of the Mavericks franchise comes just a little over nine months after his controversial call to trade away former Dallas superstar Luka Doncic and bring in then Los Angeles Lakers All-Star Anthony Davis in a blockbuster deal that shocked the basketball world back in February of this year. Former Mavericks standout Michael Finley and Matt Ricardi will take over as interim co-general managers.
The Dallas Mavericks Currently Sit As The No. 14 Seed In The Western Conference
Another potential factor towards the firing of Nico Harrison likely stems from the fact that the Dallas Mavericks have not had the start that they were expecting in the 2025-26 season, even after drafting former Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick. This is because the team sits at No. 14 in the Western Conference with a lowly 3-8 record. On the contrary, Luka Doncic has led his team to the fourth seed in the West with an 8-3 record.
