After parting ways with Villanova’s previous coach, Kyle Neptune, the Wildcats appointed the assistant coach, Mike Nardi, as Villanova’s interim head coach on Saturday, March 15.
Having played for the team for five seasons and worked as an assistant coach for seven seasons under two head coaches, Nardi is equipped to lead the team and make a statement in the College Basketball Crown Tournament.

What Is at Stake for the Wildcats in the College Crown Basketball Tournament?
On Tuesday, April 1, the Villanova will face Colorado in their first game in this inaugural tournament at 8:30 p.m. ET at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This is Nardi’s chance to help the Wildcats take the tournament by storm, change the team’s narrative, and end the season on a good note.
In an interview, Nardi stated that it is his responsibility to make all the formal players and coaches of the team proud, and that he will ensure the team moves past its loss in the Big East Tournament.
All eyes will be on Nardi as his first game as interim head coach approaches while Villanova finalizes Kevin Willard’s hiring process. He will look to make good use of experienced players like Enoch Boakye and Jhamir Brickus, along with others like Eric Dixon, who have been with the team since their freshman years.
If Villanova beats Colorado, they will face the winner of the game between Tulane and USC. A strong performance in this tournament could solidify Nardi’s value within the Villanova coaching staff and provide a positive end to the season.
Why Kevin Willard?
Compared to Neptune at Villanova, Maryland’s head coach, Kevin Willard, has had a stronger track record, posting a 27-9 this season and a 65-39 overall record for three seasons.
For a team that has missed the NCAA tournament, a coach with a history of leading teams to the NCAA tournament seven times is an ideal fit for the Wildcats. Villanova’s athletic director has also stated that Willard has great plans for the team.
