    Iowa State Lands Mason Williams

According to On3 insider Pete Nakos, Iowa State has landed Mason Williams from Eastern Washington.

Williams averaged nearly 14.0 points per game last season (13.9 points per game).

The Seattle native is now looking to make an impact in Ames after performing admirably for the Eagles for the last two years. In addition to averaging double figures in points, he also averaged 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The Eagles finished the season with a disappointing record of 10-22.

Simply put, Williams was a great player on a bad team in a smaller conference. Now, he will have the chance to show what he’s got in one of the country’s premier conferences. By the looks of things, he should be able to fit right in with T.J. Otzelberger’s team.

Putting the Cyclones’ Season in Perspective

It is fair to say that Iowa State had another strong season under Otzelberger. After going 13-7 in conference play, the Cyclones made a decent run in the postseason, reaching the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament.

Under Otzelberger for four years, the Cyclones have made all four NCAA Tournaments and have made multiple Sweet 16 runs. But if this team wants to find a way to go deeper next season, they will have to find players who can score at will in big moments.

Williams appears to be that type of player. He, along with Joshua Jefferson and Milan Momcilovic, will have to be the leader of this team next season, especially when it comes to putting the ball in the cup.

In a stacked conference with the likes of Arizona, Kansas, BYU, Texas Tech, and other schools, the Cyclones proved that they can beat anybody at any time on any floor.
