Kentucky men’s basketball head coach Mark Pope weighed in on the debate on whether the college basketball season should be expanded.

Mark Pope on Expanding College Basketball Regular Season
Pope favored the expansion and gave his reasons in an Instagram video on Friday, Feb. 28.
“I’d love the non-conference to, to have a couple more games because it gives you the freedom to go schedule better games,” he said. “All of us right now as, as athletic departments are, are going to be more and more financially challenged as the revenue-sharing if the settlement goes through.
“So it’s a way for us to increase revenue significantly and have the freedom to find a couple more great, impactful games.”

Mark Pope Provides Update on Jaxson Robinson’s Injury
As Pope continues to advocate for more college basketball games, he has to deal with issues within his Kentucky team. After a 94-78 loss to top-ranked Auburn on Feb. 26, the Kentucky head coach revealed that Jaxson Robinson will be out for the rest of the season.
Robinson sustained a wrist injury and had not featured for the team. Pope said the senior guard would undergo open wrist surgery and would not play in the NCAA Tournament.

“Kind of came to the conclusion last night that he’s going to get surgery,” Pope said. “So he’s going Wednesday to the world’s specialist to have surgery on his wrist… We kind of knew he was going to need surgery, and he just wanted so badly to play that he rehabbed it and had an injection to try to make it functional.”
Robinson is Kentucky’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging 13.0 points per game while shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc.
