Just when you thought this college basketball season couldn’t get any wilder, Indiana’s star forward, Malik Reneau, has entered the transfer portal. The 6’9″ standout, who played a crucial role for the Hoosiers, is now looking for a new home. With his skills, there’s no doubt that some of the biggest programs in the country will be knocking on his door.

Where will Malik Reneau land next?
How will this shake up the college basketball landscape? Let’s break it all down.
1. Miami Hurricanes: A Homecoming Story?
What better place for a Miami native to land than back in his hometown? The Hurricanes have been a rising force in the ACC, and adding a skilled big man like Reneau could elevate them to true contender status. Miami plays a fast-paced, modern style of basketball that suits Reneau’s ability to run the floor and play inside-out basketball.
Also, let’s not forget the impact of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) opportunities. Miami has one of the most active NIL collectives in the country, and a player of Reneau’s caliber could secure significant endorsement deals while staying close to family and friends.
2. Florida Gators: The One That Got Away?
Could Reneau make a full-circle return to the program he once committed to? Florida has been looking to re-establish itself as a powerhouse in the SEC, and adding a dominant frontcourt presence like Reneau would certainly help.
Florida’s system under Todd Golden emphasizes spacing and ball movement, something that could help Reneau showcase his underrated passing ability. Plus, with the SEC’s increasing competitiveness, a move to Florida would keep Reneau in the spotlight while giving him a chance to battle against some of the best talent in the country.
3. North Carolina Tar Heels: A Blue Blood Rebuild?
UNC has had a history of developing talented forwards, and Reneau would fit perfectly into their system. The Tar Heels are always in contention for deep tournament runs, and playing in the ACC would give Reneau a chance to shine against top competition.
Hubert Davis has been aggressive in the transfer portal, and bringing in a player with Reneau’s experience would add immediate depth and leadership. The opportunity to play in front of one of college basketball’s most passionate fan bases doesn’t hurt either.
4. Kansas Jayhawks: A Championship Contender
If Reneau wants to maximize his chances of winning a national championship, Kansas should be high on his list. Bill Self’s system is known for maximizing frontcourt talent, and Reneau’s ability to score efficiently in the post would make him a valuable asset for the Jayhawks.
Kansas has also been one of the most successful programs in integrating transfers, helping them develop into NBA-ready prospects. If Reneau is thinking about making the jump to the next level after one more season, this could be the perfect landing spot.
5. Arizona Wildcats: A West Coast Powerhouse
The Wildcats love to play fast, and Reneau’s mobility would be a great fit in their transition-heavy offense. Arizona has been dominant in the Pac-12, and adding a player like Reneau would only strengthen their frontcourt depth.
Tommy Lloyd has quickly built Arizona into a national powerhouse, and a move out west could provide Reneau with a fresh start in a system that values skilled big men. Plus, playing in a different region could help him stand out more in NBA Draft discussions.
Coming out of Montverde Academy as a four-star recruit, Reneau originally committed to Florida before flipping to Indiana in 2022. He was expected to be a key piece in the Hoosiers’ rebuilding effort under Mike Woodson, and he delivered.

In the 2024-25 season, Reneau led the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game while averaging 5.5 rebounds and two assists in just over 23 minutes per contest. He shot an impressive 55.2% from the field, making him one of the most efficient big men in the Big Ten.
Over his three-year career with the Hoosiers, Reneau played in 94 games (55 starts) and became just the 55th player in Indiana history to surpass 1,000 career points.
Wherever he goes, expect him to make an immediate impact. The college basketball world will be watching closely to see where this talented forward lands next.
