Tre Johnson Breaks Kevin Durant’s Texas Longhorns Freshman Scoring Record

Johnson’s 39 points broke the Texas freshman scoring record, which had been held by NBA star Kevin Durant, who is worth $300 million as per Celebrity Net Worth. He scored 37 points in his freshman year in college in 2007.

In KD’s freshman season, Texas finished with a 25-10 record. The Longhorns went 12-4 in the Big 12, ending in third place. Durant was amazing, leading the conference in scoring with 25.1 points per game and in rebounding with 11.4 rebounds.

He also ranked second in blocks, seventh in field goal percentage, and sixth in free throw percentage before the Big 12 tournament.

Meanwhile, Johnson’s outing consisted of 14 of 28 shots, including 7 of 11 3-pointers. In the second half, he scored 17 points, bringing Texas back from a 14-point deficit, which also sent the game into overtime. In fact, Johnson scored all 12 of Texas’ points in overtime, almost seeing his team to a win.

However, Arkansas did just enough to win. Zvonimir Ivisic and Johnell Davis scored 14 of Arkansas’ 17 OT points. The win was the Razorbacks’ second against the Longhorns, having also beaten the team 78-70 earlier in February.

The game was full of ups and downs for both teams, who have had mixed results through out this campaign.

Arkansas took control early in the game, building a 12-point lead at halftime and holding a double-digit advantage for most of the contest.

In the first half, Arkansas made 11 of 14 free throws and 7 of 12 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Texas wasn’t able to make it to the free-throw line well, with only two attempts and hitting two 3-pointers.

However, in the second half, Texas took advantage of Arkansas’ fouls, scoring 10 points from the free-throw line, while Arkansas only made three. Johnson’s five 3-pointers, including three in the second half, led to Texas’ first lead since early in the game.

Even though the Longhorns lost in the end, the game was clear evidence of Johnson’s skills. He is averaging over 20 points per game this season.
