KJ Adams Undergoes Successful Surgery for Achilles Injury

Adams was helped to the locked room following a non-contact injury on a rebound attempt with just over three minutes to play against the Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

No. 7 Kansas led the Razorbacks 67-64 before the injury and lost 79-72. Adams had 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes.

“KJ had successful surgery this morning to repair his torn Achilles,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “He is in good spirits. Although this is a big setback, he’ll attack his rehab with his patented toughness and be back on the court as strong as ever.”

The injury marked the end of Adams’ — a senior — career in Lawrence, Kansas. He had his best year in 2023-24, averaging 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. The team was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Adams was part of the 2021-22 Jayhawk team that won the 2022 NCAA tournament. As a freshman, Adams got only 4.8 minutes of court time per game, averaging one point a game. He played 17 minutes in the 2022 tournament, including three in the national championship, racking up two rebounds and a block.

This year, the 6’7” senior from Austin, Texas, took a slight step back, with Self reducing his playtime by about three minutes from last year despite retaining his starting position.
