Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: Mark Pope Reportedly Joins Race For Highly-Touted Prospect On SEC Rivals’ Radar

After decommitting from Alabama, four-star small forward Chris Washington Jr. is back on the market, and several SEC schools are currently fighting over him. These include Louisville, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, though it seems that he has been talking with Mark Pope over at Kentucky as well, according to On3’s Jack Pilgrim.

Washington verbally committed to Alabama, but soon decommitted and has been talking to several teams. Kentucky reportedly reached out to his AAU coach, Bobby Maze, soon after his decommitment.

Washington is a highly-prized recruit from the Class of 2026, as he is ranked No. 49 overall by On3 Rivals and is the No. 18 small forward in his class. He goes to Providence Christian High School in Gainesville, Florida and has several other suitors, including Florida State and Cincinnati.

He officially visited Alabama and Tennessee, but after his decommitment from Alabama last November, Tennessee may be the favorite. However, others may have a chance for a late push ahead of the April signing period.

As for when he will make his decision, Washington says it might happen after the NCAA Tournament concludes. He noted that he is in no rush to commit and that his recruitment is still open.

“Honestly, I just want to go where I’m wanted — and the play style. I got to go where I fit in and where the coaches really want me,” he told KSR. “(My recruitment is) open. Whenever the time is right.”

Chris Washington Jr. is known for his length and athleticism, and he is a threat on both ends of the floor. He could be an asset on any team.
