    Kelvin Sampson Gets Emotional on Senior Night Honoring J’Wan Roberts

    On Monday night, the Houston basketball team played Kansas for their final regular-season home game. Before the game, the Cougars commemorated all of their seniors, and head coach Sampson shared an emotional moment with Roberts.

    While being honored, Roberts stepped up and hugged his head coach, and Sampson burst into tears. Houston won the game 65-59.

    Roberts, a 6’8″ forward, has been an integral part of the Houston basketball team. He redshirted during the 2019-20 season, received an additional COVID-19 waiver, and is one of the final “COVID waiver” players, finishing his six-year career with the Cougars.

    His dedication and growth throughout the years have been crucial to the team’s success.

    Roberts’ journey with the Cougars exemplifies endurance and loyalty. His development into a vital player demonstrates his effort and Coach Sampson’s effective guidance.

    Roberts featured in 25 games during his freshman season and continued to improve throughout his career. He was a role player for the Cougars during his first two seasons, but he became a regular starter in his junior year.
