The Alaskan high school basketball single-game scoring record of 74 points has been in place since 2009. A junior at Walter Northway High School finally broke the record this year.
Junior Guard Terrence Titus Breaks Alaska High School Scoring Record
Terrence Titus, a junior at Walter Northway High School in Alaska, shattered the state’s scoring record, dropping 82 points in their victory over Buckland High School.
Titus wasn’t just stat padding, either. The game came down to the wire, with Walter Northway beating Buckland 119-109.
As crazy as 82 points are, Titus’ stat line may be even crazier. The junior shot 33 of 55 from the field, hitting ten threes. According to MaxPreps, in the first quarter, Titus had 24 points and then finished the half off with 39. He continued dominating in the second half, dropping 27 points in the third quarter, and finished off the game with 16 in the fourth quarter.
Titus also racked up eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals to round out his night.
While 82 points may seem far-fetched to most, it was bound to happen for Titus. The junior is averaging a jaw-dropping 40 points a game this season and hit 1,000 career points in just his sophomore season.
Alaskan Basketball on the Rise
Titus isn’t the only basketball superstar in Alaska. The same night that Titus dropped 82, another Alaskan, Ian Weyanna, dropped 62 in a game for his high school, James C Isabelle. Weyanna is also having an absurd season, as according to Max Preps, the Senior is averaging 44.8 points a game this year.
The national media is starting to take notice of the talent in Alaska, as SportsCenter Next posted Titus on their X page, highlighting his insane night.
