Jamal Mashburn Jr. Secures AAC Player Of The Week
These achievements underscored Mashburn’s dominance in college basketball, particularly in the AAC, where he has consistently delivered high-scoring performances. He earned his second AAC Player of the Week recognition following two impressive games that led Temple to crucial victories.
Additionally, he secured his third Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week award for the season. His contributions were key in back-to-back wins that kept the Owls in a competitive position within the conference standings.
On Jan. 29, he registered a career-high 34 points in a double-overtime thriller against Charlotte. His performance included six rebounds and three assists while shooting 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Just three days later, Mashburn followed up with a 32-point effort in a 98-94 overtime win against East Carolina. He also contributed four assists and made 10 of 13 free throws.
Throughout those games, Mashburn Jr. averaged 33.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while maintaining a shooting percentage of 52.6% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range. Temple improved to a 14-8 overall record and 6-3 in conference play, positioning itself well for the remainder of the season.
The Owls’ next matchup was an away game against South Florida (11-11, 4-5 AAC) on Feb. 6, aired on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. ET. In Temple’s overtime victory against East Carolina, Mashburn Jr. played all 45 minutes without committing a turnover. He shot 10 of 16 from the field and converted two of three three-point attempts.
Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List
In addition to his weekly honors, Mashburn earned a spot on the Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch list. This recognition placed him among 50 players under consideration for the National Player of the Year award, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). The selection further validated his impact as one of the top players in Division I basketball.
Mashburn ranked second nationally in scoring with 22.1 points per game while leading the AAC in that category. His scoring efficiency improved in conference play, averaging 25.0 points per game and shooting 44.4% from three-point range. These performances positioned him as the focal point of Temple’s offense.
