Insider Bluntly Calls Out NCAA As LSU Gears Up to Hire Will Wade After Just One Year at NC State: ‘Funny’

The Will Wade saga playing out between LSU and NC State has gotten many fans talking. LSU had one of its worst seasons yet, and there are now rumors that the school is trying to get Wade, who just led the Wolfpack to a 20-14 overall record before getting eliminated by Texas during the First Four.

However, the coach has only been at NC State for a year and rumors of him leaving has raised a lot of eyebrows, including Jay Bilas’.

The ESPN analyst took to X to call out the NCAA over the possible move, pointing out that while players only have a small window in the transfer portal, coaches have all year to do so:

“Hey NCAA, us more about players that don’t show “loyalty,” don’t want to go through “adversity” and how player movement impacts stability. Tell us more about “tampering” and “poaching.” The Coaches Portal is ALWAYS open. Funny how silent coaches and administrators are about that.”

The analyst’s sentiments echoed the lack of control the NCAA has to prevent coaches from jumping from one program to another repeatedly, as coaches are able to jump teams a lot easier than players would, frustrating many fans with the lack of loyalty.

While there is legislation regarding players leaving and entering the transfer portal, there is still no legislation being made regarding coaches who leave programs before their contracts expire.

Will Wade Previously Shot Down LSU Rumors After Loss to Texas

Will Wade gained notoriety after leading McNeese to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. During his first year at NC State, he almost made it to the tournament again but lost to Texas in the First Four. After that loss, he addressed rumors that he was leaving NC State for LSU.

“Is the job open there?” Wade said. “No? Listen, let me be very clear. I’m excited at NC State. I was hired at NC State to do a job. This wasn’t going to take one year. I’ve already met with our administration about next year and some of the changes that we need to make and some of the things that we need to do to put this program where it deserves long-term.”

Wade previously coached LSU for five seasons but was fired in 2022 after allegations of his recruiting violations surfaced.
