Before he stepped in as head coach at Texas Tech, he coached at Midwestern State, Midland College, and Arkansas State. He is also the man behind North Texas’ two postseason championships. Additionally, he was also an assistant coach at Baylor.

Baylor’s Scott Drew isn’t far behind at $5.4 million, followed by Houston’s Kelvin Sampson at $4.6 million. While McCasland may not be at the top, he is on his way there. He is already making more than Kansas State’s Jerome Tang, who’s pocketing $3.7 million.
Beyond the numbers, McCasland’s impact is undeniable. He has led Texas Tech to consecutive 20+ win seasons and set records for three-pointers and overall scoring. The Red Raiders are most likely going to make another NCAA Tournament run.
This makes McCasland the only coach in Texas Tech history to achieve such a feat in his first two seasons. Now, this also means McCasland’s name is already making rounds for high-profile job openings, including Indiana.
However, getting out of the Texas contract will not be easy. His contract includes a hefty buyout clause. If McCasland decides to leave, the university will collect 40% of his remaining contract value. As of April 1, 2025, that number stands at $8.4 million.
