Rodney Terry Reacts to Texas OT Win vs. Mississippi State
Texas men’s college basketball head coach Rodney Terry expressed his satisfaction after his team beat Mississippi State in overtime to boost their chances of making the NCAA Tournament this season.
The Longhorns (17-13, 6-11 SEC) were not at their best performance, committing a season-high 19 turnovers and shooting a season-worst 60.9% from the foul line. Yet, they mustered enough strength to defeat the AP-ranked Bulldogs (20-10, 8-9).
“Really proud of our guys in terms of every guy came in the game, and all gave great contribution towards the way they played with energy and activity,” Terry told reporters after the game. “It’s not an easy place to come in and win against an NCAA tournament team.”

Texas entered the game as one of the first four teams that would miss the tournament. But the win over Mississippi State is a fifth Quad 1 victory for the Longhorns, thanks to the knockout combo of Tramon Mark and Tre Johnson, with 24 points and 23 points, respectively. Both guards teamed up to shoot 17 of 29 from the floor and 10 of 15 from three-point range.
“You know what’s funny? We haven’t had a problem with pressure all year long,” Terry added. “We’ve done a great job handling pressure and getting the ball inbounds. We stuck with it (and) found a way to get here.”
Texas’ desperate quest for NCAA Tournament continues as the Longhorns will host fellow desperate team Oklahoma in a final regular-season game on Saturday, March 8.
