Dan Hurley has said that the UConn men’s basketball team has no injury worries ahead of their game against Providence on March 1.
UConn returns to action on Saturday, which is the first of the last three games in the Big East Conference this season. The Huskies will go into this game on the back of a 93-79 win over Georgetown on Feb. 27, but there remain doubts over the fitness of some of their players.
However, Hurley insists they are fine, as nothing major has happened since the win over the Hoyas.
Dan Hurley Provides Injury News Ahead of UConn vs Providence
The fitness of Hassan Diarra is the biggest worry for UConn going into the game, as he has been nursing a knee injury that has bothered him and limited him in the last few weeks. However, Hurley insists his 6-foot-2 guard is feeling better day-by-day.
“Healthwise the same, everyone came out okay,” Hurley said in his pre-match press conference. “I thought he [Diarra] looked as good as he’s looked. Even if you go back to the first Providence game, he looked like a totally healthy guy.
“And that was one of his, you know best games of the year, maybe best game of his career, until the last couple minutes, where we finally were able to go from down 14 up to 12 and then tried to lose the game. So it was fun to relive that. Feels like there’s been a lot of games like that.”
Hurley also confirmed that Diarra and some of the other guys on the team will be observing the Ramadan fast, which starts on March 1, but that should not be a problem for the team.
The 52-year-old American also noted that the team has missed a few marks this season, but he was happy with some of their plays in the win against Georgetown, especially Ahmad to Alex.
“We’ve missed a lot of things this year just as a team, you know, in the offense, just having people open. But you know we’ve just been under so much duress in terms of ball pressure that it was good to see Ahmad be able to find Alex on that play,” Hurley added.
The game against Providence is the start of the last three games in the Big East for UConn. The Huskies are currently fourth in the Big East with an 11-6 record in the conference and a 19-9 overall record.

However, they will be eager to finish on a high, starting against the Friars. Following Saturday’s game, the Huskies take on Marquette on March 6, before rounding up the regular season with a game against Seton Hall a day later.
