According to On3 Sports, South Dakota guard Chase Forte, the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, is entering the transfer portal.
The 6’4″ senior averaged 17.9 points per game this season, including 20 against Nebraska in November, earning him a First Team All Summit-League spot. With one more year of eligibility remaining for the Raleigh, North Carolina native, here are some potential landing spots.

Chase Forte Potential Transfer Portal Landing Spots
NC State Wolfpack
The most obvious landing spot for the Coyotes’ leading scorer is a return home. With roots in Raleigh and time spent in-state playing for UNC Asheville, Forte could set his sights on the ACC’s Wolfpack.

The question for Forte: Just how much playing time can he get?
With leading scorer Marcus Hill announcing he’ll take advantage of the NCAA’s new JuCo rules, one starting guard spot will be filled come next November, but the other guard spot hasn’t been claimed just yet. Seniors Dontrez Styles, Jayden Taylor, and Michael O’Connell got the majority of the rest of the guard minutes, and none are expected to return to Raleigh next season.
Only one guard — Dayton, Ohio’s Ricardo Greer Jr. — has committed to the Wolfpack’s 2025 freshman class thus far, leaving the door wide open for Forte.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
If Forte wants a return home, perhaps a trip down the road to Winston-Salem could catch his eye instead.
While Wake Forest does have a four-star guard in Isaac Carr, senior superstar Hunter Sallis is expected to depart to the NBA draft, leaving a big hole open for Forte. With the Demon Deacons’ other starting guard, Cameron Hildreth, also a senior, there is plenty of open space in the backcourt.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
A Big Ten team could be knocking down Forte’s door.
With two of the four guards in their rotation heading out in Brice Williams and Rollie Worster and no guards currently signed to their 2025 freshman class, the Cornhuskers — who invested big time in the underwhelming junior Connor Essegian — could be looking for a replacement at guard.

With Williams being from Huntersville, North Carolina, perhaps he can put in a good word for his team on the way out the door.
