Head coach Bruce Pearl was the center of online discourse on social media this week after bragging about the support of the Auburn Tigers fanbase. In the post from Thursday night, he shared a photo of Auburn students camping out and exclaimed, “This is what an everything school looks like!” What does he mean by this?

What Does Auburn Head Coach Bruce Pearl Mean?
The tweet, featuring a photo of students camping out for tickets to the matchup last weekend against the Florida Gators, showed that the Auburn student body is passionate about all of the Tigers’ sports programs—not just the football team.
Fans quickly pointed out that Auburn football had not won more than six games in a season since 2019, the baseball team missed the postseason in 2024, and the women’s basketball team held a mediocre 12-11 record.
Ironically enough, Pearl’s former team, Tennessee, seemed like a stronger candidate for the “everything school” label. The Vols, who Pearl coached from 2005-11, reached the 2024 College Football Playoff, and the men’s basketball team is ranked fourth in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
The Lady Vols are 17-6 and recently secured a win against women’s basketball-powerhouse UConn. The Volunteers’ spring sports also have had strong recent performances, including a 2024 national title for the baseball team and success for the softball team.
The No. 1 Auburn Tigers suffered their first conference loss on Saturday, falling to No. 6 Florida 90-81 at Neville Arena in Auburn. The Tigers started strong, building a 10-point lead within the first six minutes. However, Florida steadily chipped away and took the lead with 4:24 left in the first half. The Gators never trailed again.
Florida played without star guard Alijah Martin but compensated with a well-balanced attack. Five players from Florida’s eight-man rotation scored in double figures.

Guard Walter Clayton Jr. led with 19 points, shooting 54% from the field, while forward Thomas Haugh contributed 16 points off the bench. It included seven from the free-throw line. After the game, Pearl acknowledged Florida’s intensity and execution.
“[Florida] came in here like they had to win it. That is how they played every possession. They played harder, they played better, they played more desperate,” Pearl said. “We did not look like the No. 1 team in the country. We did not act like the No. 1 team in the country. We didn’t prepare like it, and as a result, we got beat,” he concluded.
Florida outperformed Auburn in every major shooting category and capitalized on turnovers, converting eight Auburn miscues into 17 points. Pearl recognized the challenges ahead, with road games against Vanderbilt and No. 3 Alabama next on the schedule. He planned to start preparations immediately.
“I will go home tonight and start working on a little bit of Vanderbilt,” Pearl said. “I will probably look at this a little bit and just keep doing what we do. You definitely have to embrace the grind. There is no question it is a grind. It is a grind for everybody.
“We go to Vanderbilt, where they have only lost once at home. They have beaten Kentucky, and they just beat Texas…so we know that it’s going to be a tough place to win,” he concluded.
Auburn looks to bounce back on Tuesday at Vanderbilt before a major road showdown against cross-state rival Alabama on Saturday. The Tigers and Commodores tip off at 7 p.m. ET at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn.
