‘Stop Making Excuses’ — Fans React to Bill Self’s Comments After Kansas Jayhawks Suffer Massive Upset vs. BYU

Bill Self upset fans following the Kansas Jayhawks’ embarrassing loss to the BYU Cougars in their basketball game last Sunday. Kansas suffered one of the biggest losses in the team’s history as they were beaten 91-57 by BYU at Marriot Center.

The defeat was their second in their last four games and also their biggest loss under Self, who has been the coach of the team since 2003.

Bill Self Angers Kansas Jayhawks Fans

Following the game, Self said they deserved the loss and that the defeat gave them an opportunity to regroup again.

“I thought BYU could beat anybody tonight. They were great. And then we didn’t do anything to make them less than great,” Self said.

“We need to regroup. Get away from each other for a day and go home. And hopefully, be able to … a lot of times with teams, there needs to be something happen to pull everybody together that is us against the outside. And we’re going to have an opportunity to do that for sure.”

However, fans were not impressed with Self’s comments, with many saying he should resign from his job.

“Stop making excuses. Get their lazy a**es out their to explain why they are timid, weak and pathetic. I’m ashamed, you should be too,” a fan said

“I think he needs a fresh start,” another fan said

“Time to hang it up like K, Roy, Tony Bennett,” another fan echoed the same sentiment

The criticism did not end there, as some even accused Self of being a checkbook basketball coach.

“Coaching by checkbook doesn’t seem to be working,” a fan said.

“Devo Davis destroyed this man,” another mentioned

“Was at KU during the Coach Ted Owens years. He stayed on too long. The game changed but he didn’t. I’m afraid of this happening again with Coach Self,” another fan said

Kansas Jayhawks No Match for BYU

The fans were right to be upset as the Cougars outplayed the Self’s Jayhawks from start to finish.

BYU started on a 22-7 run before Kansas managed to cut the lead to a single digit. But that was as good as it got for Self’s boys despite a 12-point, 14-rebound double-double.
