The Purdue Boilermakers were able to get their first win of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday against the USC Trojans. However, it didn’t come without some favorable calls from the officials.

    Officials Possibly Leaning Towards Purdue

While the Boilermakers ended up getting the 76-71 win, some college basketball fans believe the win could be tainted by poor officiating.

A fan recently posted a clip on social media of several poor calls from the officials that ended up going in Purdue’s favor.

Whether it was a foul called on USC that didn’t look like a foul or a ball that rolled out of bounds off of one team but was incorrectly called out off of the other, it was not the greatest game from the officials.

Anytime a poorly officiated game takes place, the win can sometimes not be as significant for the team that comes out on top. But more than anything else, the Big Ten officials are now under the spotlight as they add another oddly officiated game under their belt.

For the Trojans, their disappointing season comes to an end.

Purdue’s season will continue both in the Big Ten Tournament and into the NCAA Tournament.

    Boilermakers Need to Play Better

Purdue has seemingly always been a good team under head coach Matt Painter.

While this season could be seen as a down year, the team from West Lafayette is still alive in the Big Ten Tournament and will have a solid seed in the NCAA Tournament.

However, they have not had the cleanest season.

While they have beaten good teams like Alabama, Maryland, Oregon, and Michigan, they have also lost to unranked teams that they likely should have beaten, such as Indiana, Ohio State, and Illinois.

Leaving games up to the officials also might not be the wisest of decisions, considering the recent track record of the officials in the Boilermakers’ conference.

But the team can still make a deep conference tournament run and overcome all of this. A strong ending to conference play could bode well for Painter and Co. in the NCAA Tournament.
