DJ Wagner NBA Draft Projections: 5 Potential Landing Spots for the Arkansas Guard

Arkansas Razorbacks guard DJ Wagner is one of the most promising prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft. After a freshman year at Kentucky, he’s now under John Calipari’s wing again, this time in a new setting.

With his scoring potential and famous basketball bloodline, Wagner’s sophomore season could launch him up draft boards. Here’s a look at five teams that might snag him next summer.

Potential NBA Draft Landing Spots for D.J. Wagner

DJ Wagner’s move from Kentucky to Arkansas offered him a clean slate. As a freshman in Lexington, Kentucky, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 assists, showing promise but struggling with consistency.

His quickness and ability to score are his most glowing aspects, yet his 29% three-point shooting and occasional shaky decisions held him back. Now, with a chance to shine, experts see him climbing into the late first round or early second if he sharpens his game.

When he does decide to join the NBA Draft, where could he land?

    Utah Jazz

The Jazz are rebuilding around Lauri Markkanen, and they have a knack for young talent. Wagner’s potential for creating shots and driving could pair well with Keyonte George in the backcourt. Utah often bets on athletic guards with room to grow. If he boosts his outside shot, he’d fit their vision perfectly.

    Portland Trail Blazers

Portland’s young core, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, needs more offensive potential. Wagner’s aggressive drives and playmaking bursts could sharpen their guard rotation. A steadier jumper would make him a real threat alongside their fast-paced style.

    San Antonio Spurs

Victor Wembanyama anchors the Spurs, and they need guards to feed him. Wagner’s quick first step can break down defenses, meshing with Gregg Popovich’s system. With a good lead, he could turn into a solid secondary playmaker. However, his fit will depend on his growth as a passer.

    Detroit Pistons

Detroit wants pieces to support Cade Cunningham. Wagner’s scoring spark and defensive potential, thanks to his length, could ease the load. The Pistons value toughness and he has plenty of it. A more reliable shot would cement his role as a dynamic backup.

    Charlotte Hornets

With LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller leading, Charlotte craves bench scoring. Wagner’s shifty moves and rim attacks could add more to their offense. The Hornets have a soft spot for good athletic potential, and Wager fits the bill.

Wagner’s draft fate rests on this season. A jump in efficiency, especially from deep and stronger playmaking, could push him higher. Teams like the Jazz, Blazers, Spurs, Pistons, and Hornets, all blending youth with opportunity, might take the chance on his potential in 2025.
