Angel Reese, known for her time with LSU, has risen to prominence in the WNBA, joining the Chicago Sky as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. At LSU, she led the Tigers to their first title in 2023, setting records for rebounds and double-doubles. Are Angel Reese and Julian Reese Related?

Yes, Julian Reese is the younger brother of Angel Reese, a standout forward for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and former LSU star. The Baltimore-born siblings are just a year apart in age—Angel is 22, while Julian is 21.

Julian, a 6’9″ forward for the Maryland Terrapins men’s team, has emerged as a dominant player in the Big Ten.

A former four-star recruit from St. Frances Academy, he ranked No. 60 nationally in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He has started nearly every game for Maryland over the past three seasons, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore.

Reese accomplished 23 blocks while scoring double digits in seven games when he was a freshman. During his sophomore season, the Maryland team recorded 11.4 points per game, ranking as their second-highest scorer, while his field goal percentage reached 63.2, which placed him third all-time in school history.

The senior played 13.3 points per game, together with 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in every game. He has achieved the tenth position among all NCAA students with 13 double-doubles during this season.

In Maryland’s second-round NCAA Tournament win over Colorado State, Reese made history as the program’s second player to surpass 1,000 career rebounds. His career totals stand at 1,476 points and 1,006 rebounds, making him one of just five players in Maryland history to reach 1,400 points and 900 rebounds.

After the Colorado State game, Reese reflected on his rebounding ability.

“I know she’s probably going crazy on my phone still right now. But as far as the rebounding that runs in the family, I think it’s just a heart thing,” he said.

“We just play the game with so much intensity and just wear our feelings on our sleeve and try to play our hardest, and I just really didn’t want that to be our last game, so I just really wanted to play real hard.”

Julian Reese continues to make his mark, adding to a family legacy already cemented by Angel Reese and their cousin, Jordan Hawkins, a former UConn national champion.

As of January, there were only two brother-sister duos playing in the NBA and WNBA. If Julian is drafted like his sister, Angel, they would join this small but impressive club.
