Home ties against the Stony Brook Seawolves and Western Michigan Broncos provide some relief in the out-of-conference slate, but they also have two road trips to Power Five opponents that the difficulty meter from easy to significantly challenging.
Sure, the Thundering Herd trampled the Virginia Tech Hokies last fall. But they’ve never beaten their local rival in Blacksburg and are 3-11 against the ACC opponent. The Ohio State Buckeyes are expected to be one of the top teams in college football this fall, making Marshall’s Week 4 trip to Columbus a mission with a low percentage chance of any success.
The Sun Belt element of the Marshall 2024 football schedule pits the Thundering Herd against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in Week 6, giving them a tough start to conference play. At least the game is in Huntington. They’ll also welcome the ULM Warhawks, Georgia State Panthers, and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers to Joan C. Edwards Stadium this fall.
