Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats lost associate head coach Vince Marrow recently. Marrow moved on to the Louisville Cardinals to become the program’s Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting.
Mark Stoops made his first public comments on Vince Marrow leaving Kentucky for Louisville this morning at SEC Media Days.

Since his former colleague jumped ship, Stoops hadn’t addressed the matter with the media. That ended this Thursday morning, when the Kentucky coach spoke about the situation with the press at the SEC media days:
“I think anybody that’s making a decision to leave the program, I don’t think there’s any… perfect way to do that… So I don’t hold any animosity towards that at all, or towards Vince. I greatly appreciate our friendship and what he’s done to help us build this program for 12 years. And… he was instrumental in a lot of ways… you’ve just got to pick up and move on quickly. And so I greatly appreciate him… I still think the world of him, but we moved on quickly.”
Stoops highlighted that the program is made up of countless individuals, and that while Vince Marrow was a key member of it, no single person is more important than the whole. Marrow spent 12 years at Lexington as a tight ends coach, associate head coach, and recruiting coordinator. He has also worked at Toledo and Nebraska and was an NFL player for four years in the 1990s.

Louisville’s Jeff Brohm’s welcome message to Vince Marrow, after the latter departs Mark Stoops’ Kentucky
Louisville’s Jeff Brohm was the person tasked with welcoming Vince Marrow to Louisville in mid-June. During a press conference at the time, Brohm dedicated the following words to Marrow’s arrival:
“I am excited to have Vince Marrow join our staff,” Brohm said. “He exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate coaching and recruiting success. His extensive experience, commitment to player development, and exceptional ability to connect with young athletes have made him one of the best in the business. Vince will be a huge asset to the staff.”
Marrow is considered a top recruiter in college football. Under him, the Wildcats’ recruitment was ranked the 14th best in the nation in 2022, the highest it has ever been. Marrow himself was named a top 10 recruiter by 247Sports. He also managed to get four top 25 recruiting classes during his stint at Kentucky.
