Mario Cristobal Takes Subtle Jab At Kirby Smart’s Georgia With Carson Beck Admission

Mario Cristobal, Carson Beck, and the entire Miami Hurricanes program must be feeling the euphoria of making it to the national championship final. The Hurricanes defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 31-27 in the Fiesta Bowl to secure that spot.

It was far from being a flawless outing from Beck and the Hurricanes, but they got the job done. Now, they hold all the bragging rights because they are going to play their first national title game in over two decades.

Beck, as expected, was one of the main reasons behind Miami’s victory against Ole Miss. Despite his early struggles, the quarterback managed to overcome and showed why he is regarded as one of the best QBs in the country.

His coach couldn’t have been happier with Beck, not just for his game but also for the leadership qualities he showcased. In the process of praising him, Cristobal took a subtle jab at Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, Beck’s former team.

While speaking with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge during the post-game interview, Cristobal stated that Beck is able to perform at a high level because he’s getting all the support he needs. It’s far from being a direct shot at Smart, but the way he decided to phrase it makes it seem like he was aiming at the Bulldogs head coach.

“That’s a perfect example of a guy who just feels supported,” Cristobal said. “He’s hungry. He’s driven. He’s a great human being, and all he wants to do is he wants to see his teammates have success. That’s what we witnessed tonight.”

Beck went 23 of 37 for 268 yards. He had two touchdowns and one interception in what can be considered a game-winning performance.

Carson Beck Motivated His Teammates in the Final Stretch

With nearly three minutes left, it seemed like the game was slipping away from the Miami Hurricanes. It would’ve been a devastating loss if they hadn’t come together at the right time. Then Beck stepped up as a leader and motivated his teammates.

The quarterback told them the value of the remaining three minutes of the game. He reminded his teammates that all the hard work they’ve put in over the year has led them to that moment and demanded that they give their 100% to secure a win.

“I told them, ‘We’ve got three minutes for the rest of our lives,’” Beck told ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “Nothing else matters. We’ve got three minutes to go through this, man. I mean, everything we’ve worked for since January, everything we’ve been through, all the adversity that we face all comes down to three minutes in the semifinals.”

Beck’s words energized his teammates, and they walked away with a win in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
