Lane Kiffin’s LSU and Ole Miss aren’t done trading coaching staff yet. Recently, Austin Thomas joined the Rebels after two years with the Tigers. Now, multiple reports suggest that the Tigers’ interim head coach is also going to leave.
Frank Wilson, the running backs coach for LSU, has also been the interim head coach since the recent changes. For the upcoming Bowl game against Houston, he is going to lead the team and close out the season as interim head coach.
Kiffin, who was brought in by the Tigers for the head coaching job, has decided to opt out and let Wilson steer the team in the final stretch. Days ahead of the Bowl game, it’s still unclear whether Kiffin will retain Wilson after that.
However, if he were to take advice from Marshall Faulk, he should keep Wilson on the team because of what he brings to the table. During a recent conversation with Jacques Doucet, Faulk made the case for Wilson.
“It might be one of the smartest moves that Lane can make, keeping him. Because of what he means to this town, this state, to that institution,” he said.

Faulk stated that he has known Wilson for a long time, and he understands how much he has done to develop great players. He said that it was a dream come true for Wilson when he was made the Tigers’ interim head coach.
Even though he’s unsure about Wilson staying on the staff after the Bowl game, he didn’t hesitate in vouching for him and urged Kiffin to keep Wilson around.

Lane Kiffin Might Lose His Running Backs Coach
Wilson was eventually going to vacate the interim head coach position and go back to his position role once Kiffin took over. However, with the growing interest in him from Ole Miss, there’s a possibility that Kiffin’s staff will be a member short soon.
Several outlets and insiders have reported on the same. Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports stated that Pete Golding, the new Ole Miss head coach, is expected to hire him following the Bowl game.
“Pete Golding is expected to hire LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson to the Ole Miss staff following LSU’s bowl game,” Zenitz wrote. “Upon Wilson taking the UTSA head coaching job in 2016, Wilson’s first hire was Golding as DC. Wilson will return to Oxford, where he coached from 2005-07.”

Pete Nakos of On3 also reported that Ole Miss is set to hire Wilson on staff. While the reports aren’t confirmed yet, such strong rumors often lead to major moves as we’ve already seen in the case of Lane Kiffin.
