Lane Kiffin’s Interests Clear As QB’s Visit Signals Major LSU Move

The intentions of newly minted LSU Tigers coach Lane Kiffin with regards to a transferring standout player are being set clear with the recent moves of one of his coaching staff members. On Friday, Jan. 3, a report by sportswriter Adam Rittenberg alleges that LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis has come back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where the Tigers campus is to meet up with Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

This comes after a prior report by football reporter Matt Moscona shared that Weis was actually in the campus of one of the rivals of the LSU program. With him immediately returning to the Tigers campus, coach Kiffin’s program’s interests have become clearer as it seems as though they are going full force to recruit Sorsby to their team. In the 2025 campaign, the Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-6 (3-5 SEC).

For Sorsby, he just wrapped up his fourth year of collegiate football in the recently concluded 2025 regular season. The Denton, Texas native helped coach Scott Saterfield’s Bearcats to an overall record of 7-6 (5-4 Big 12), and finished as the No. 7 seed in the Big 12 conference as Cincinnati did not make it into postseason play. Sorsby has spent the last two seasons with the team, with his first two campaigns being with the Indiana Hoosiers.

ESPN Analyst Pete Thamel Details The LSU Tigers Vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders Race For Brendan Sorsby

In an article written by writer Jake Falgus of Clutch Points and has since been published on Yahoo! Sports, ESPN analyst Pete Thamel was quoted from his most recent interview on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Friday, Jan. 2, wherein he detailed the tight race for Brendan Sorsby. According to Thamel, the Sorsby sweepstakes now boil down to just two teams, coach Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

“He is essentially on his way to Lubbock right now for a visit with Texas Tech, which obviously loses quarterback Behren Morton. Remember their backup, Will Hammond, who is a promising young player? He played really well at Utah this year, but tore his ACL. So Texas Tech has a significant need at quarterback, as does Lane Kiffin. So Sorsby is going to visit Texas Tech, then go to Baton Rouge, and then soon decide between the two,” Thamel was quoted as saying.

“So, as quarterback battles go at big brand programs, that is about as high stakes as you are going to get in this portal season,” he added.
