Kenny Minchey Transfer Portal: Notre Dame QB Makes Surprise Switch to $400M Program, Ditching Nebraska Move

Former Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey has made a dramatic flip just days after the transfer portal opened. On Sunday, Minchey announced his commitment to Nebraska after playing as a backup with the Fighting Irish. However, within 24 hours, he made another switch, flipping his commitment to Kentucky. According to The New York Times, the Kentucky football program is valued at $400 million.

The redshirt sophomore has two years of eligibility remaining. He entered the 2025 preseason with hopes of becoming the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but he lost the fight to CJ Carr. He appeared in just six games, completing 20 of 26 passes for 196 yards, while also rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers needed a quarterback in the offseason with the departure of Dylan Raiola and Marcos Dávila. When they received Minchey’s commitment, they thought they had filled the role. However, they were surprised the following day when he flipped to Kentucky under new head coach Will Stein. Now, Nebraska once again needs to find its signal-caller for next season.

On the other hand, the Wildcats had a disappointing 2025 season with starter Cutter Boley, who transferred to Arizona State. With Minchey on its books, Kentucky finally has its quarterback for the next season. He will have to face tough SEC competitors, though, which could elevate his game further.
