Keionte Scott, a former Auburn Tiger cornerback, is transferring to Miami. After last season’s struggle, Mario Cristobal, the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, is reshaping the team’s defense. This move is the right first step towards that.
Miami received Scott’s commitment through the transfer portal on Tuesday. After three years with Auburn, he transferred to Houston last January. However, last month, he re-entered the transfer portal.
Last season, Scott posted 115 tackles, six for loss, one interception, and one sack during the 11 games at Auburn. This move will undoubtedly help bolster the Miami Hurricanes’ defense, which is a strong priority for the team.

Scott, a former four-star JUCO cornerback from Ephraim, graduated from the 2022 class. Three years back, Scott was considered the top JUCO cornerback, and before choosing Auburn, he included Miami in his top five.

In his three years at Auburn, Scott logged 115 tackles after joining the program from Snow College. By making 53 stops, he burst into the scene with four tackles for loss and an interception as a sophomore in 2022.
His time dipped to 469 snaps in 2023 and 239 snaps in the last season after participating in 629 snaps in 2022.
With only one year of eligibility remaining, Scott is expected to compete for immediate playing time in the secondary. He will reunite with Zac Etheridge, who was hired by Miami right after Scott arrived in Houston in January.
Currently, the Hurricanes have added four cornerbacks and two safeties via the portal, but Scott may have the inside track to earn the nod due to his familiarity with Etheridge.

As the season approaches, the Hurricanes will look forward to leveraging the new talent to improve their defensive strategies and prevent a repeat of last campaign’s ending. The effectiveness of the changes will be evaluated closely, with a strong focus on Cristobal’s coaching and recruiting efforts.
There is no doubt that in terms of recruitment, Cristobal is the person to have by your side. However, the focus now is on how he can ensure these new recruitments work as a cohesive force to bring in better results.
