Kalen DeBoer Sees Major Shift in Alabama’s WR Corps

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer discusses how the team's WR corps is taller than in past seasons.

Earlier in the week, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer outlined how there has been a shift in the wide receiver room this year. While discussing a variety of topics with the media ahead of the 2025 college football campaign, DeBoer made clear that the wide receiver room was taller this year than it had been in prior seasons.

He also highlighted Isaiah Horton, a wide receiver who transferred from the Miami Hurricanes this offseason.

What Did Kalen DeBoer Say About His Wide Receivers?

DeBoer emphasized how the Crimson Tide’s wide receiver corps was taller this season. The video in full can be found on the “BamaOnLine” YouTube channel.

“I think it’s a room that got longer. Jalen Hale coming back, you know, he was here but just not with us because of his injury. Isaiah, and even young guy Derek Meadows. And again, just the room in general when you look at them, they look longer, taller,” DeBoer stated.

He then continued by highlighting the positive impact Horton can have on Alabama’s offensive unit next year.

“Just a lot of production. He’s been out there, the lights aren’t going to be too bright for him. You can see just his focus in the phase of workouts that we had. It’s important to him, he came here for a reason because he wanted to be pushed, he wanted to be challenged, he wanted to come around here, he wasn’t scared of competition… He added to the room and we’re excited about his personality and his attitude that he brings,” DeBoer added.

Last year, Horton had 56 receptions for 616 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns for the Hurricanes.

    Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2025 Outlook

The Crimson Tide are unquestionably looking to improve offensively and overall next campaign. Though not a poor season for an average college football program, Alabama has proven over the past few decades that anything short of a deep run in the College Football Playoff or a national championship victory is a disappointment.

This past year, the Crimson Tide did not qualify for the CFP and finished the season with a record of 9-4, going 5-3 against fellow SEC opponents. The program averaged 34.5 points per game (No. 21 overall) and 17.4 points against per game (No. 10 overall) last year.

Looking to next season, many analysts and fans anticipate Alabama once again competing for a national title.

Though the program will likely lose various key players on both sides of the ball to the NFL Draft, Alabama has also been aggressive in bringing in talented players through recruiting and the transfer portal, such as Horton, who can help the team compete once again next year.
