Lane Kiffin is probably the most wanted college football coach right now, as teams continue to announce the firing of their head coaches, the most recent one being Hugh Freeze at Auburn. Kiffin’s name tops the list for a few of these schools, especially the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers.
During Monday’s episode of “The Joel Klatt Show,” the analyst shared his advice for Kiffin and Ole Miss by citing examples of other coaches who are high-profile targets.
“Dan Lanning said ‘Absolutely not, I’m at Oregon.’ Matt Rhule signed an extension at Nebraska, and Curt Cignetti signed an extension at Indiana. So the longer that Lane Kiffin doesn’t sign an extension at Ole Miss, or come out and absolutely and emphatically and definitively — like Dan Lanning did — turn these jobs down and say ‘I’m not going anywhere,’ the distraction is going to creep up at Ole Miss,” Klatt said.
“That would be my worry for Ole Miss and this team – the distraction of what’s going to go on. Because, listen, Florida is coming after Lane Kiffin — period,” Klatt continued. “LSU will absolutely talk with and try to interview Lane Kiffin, there’s not a doubt in my mind.”
Kiffin added that he knows one of them to be true for a fact; hence, the longer this goes, it could become a distraction for Ole Miss, which is something to watch out for.

Paul Finebaum Weighs In on Lane Kiffin’s Potential Interest in Jumping Ship
During Paul Finebaum’s latest appearance on “The Matt Barnie Show,” he shared his thoughts on Lane Kiffin’s situation and whether he thinks Kiffin is considering these jobs.
He started by saying that nobody is bothering him at Oxford right now because he has a Nick Saban-esque reputation, which means people are worried about him.
Finebaum added that people shouldn’t think that Kiffin is not considering these jobs and that it’s just a matter of time since he believes the Ole Miss head coach has another move in him.
“I can’t tell you what he’s going to do, but it’s just a matter [of time]. I mean, Auburn came this close to getting him three years ago. The family finally said don’t go, but that’s changed now. I think Lane has another move in him. I just don’t know when it is or where it is, but it’s coming,” Finebaum said.
Kiffin currently tops the odds of being the next Florida head coach, via BetOnline.
