“Where Was the Joke”: Jimmy Kimmel Faces Stephen A. Smith’s Wrath After Firing Over Charlie Kirk Comments

The late Charlie Kirk‘s divisiveness has continued even after his assassination at the hands of a fellow right-winger. During “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” host Jimmy Kimmel, who was often the target of President Donald Trump‘s threats of getting him off air because he made fun of the politician, pointed out that while the president said that he is grieving Kirk, he often liked to change the subject and made it all about himself.

Kimmel pointed out that Trump did not really care about Kirk as the president quickly shifted to another topic, namely the ballroom he had been building. This joke led to Kimmel getting taken off air, and Stephen A. Smith has a hot take again:

“Where was the joke? Because you’re a late-night host — and obviously that has a comedic attachment to it. Where was the joke? Obviously, it wasn’t anything funny about that,” he said.

Despite Smith saying this, Kimmel was joking about Trump seemingly caring more about his new White House ballroom than he ever did about his supposed friend, Charlie Kirk. He also pointed out that Trump’s allies had been trying to spin Kirk’s killer as left-wing, even though he was a follower of far-right figure and Charlie Kirk rival Nick Fuentes.

“The Maga gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,”Kimmel said.

He then played a clip of Trump changing the subject to Kirk’s ballroom, and this got Kimmel saying this, which many said led to his getting taken off air:

“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish,” Kimmel joked.

Former ESPN Host Dan Le Batard Blasts Disney For Bending the Knee to Donald Trump Over Jimmy Kimmel Suspension

Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension has led to a wave of support from Hollywood, from actor Ben Stiller to comedy legend Steve Martin, all of them blasting the suspension as an attack on the freedom of speech. He has also gotten a lot of support from other media personalities, including anchor Chris Hayes and former ESPN host Dan Le Batard.

The former “College GameDay” host slammed Disney, saying that CEO Bob Iger bent the knee to Donald Trump, who had been threatening to get Kimmel cancelled over the jokes he made about Trump.

He added that the cancellation was an act of “cowardice” on the part of Disney and warned that Trump is curtailing freedom of speech, just as Fidel Castro did in Cuba. Le Batard’s family fled Cuba as the Castro regime took over and curtailed all speech against the dictator.
