Dallas Cowboys fans’ relationship with Jerry Jones is a bittersweet one. On the one hand, when he bought the team in 1989, he helped usher in a golden age for the franchise with three Super Bowl wins in less than five years. On the other hand, since the team won its last title in 1995, every management decision he has taken seems to have been the wrong one.
Jerry Jones isn’t going anywhere, folks.
“I’m often asked the question, ‘Why don’t I hire a general manager?’ I’ve had people that said, ‘Jerry, you subject yourself to so much criticism. You need a buffer.’

Some fans find solace in the fact that Jerry Jones might soon retire and allow another general manager to take over the reins of the team. In a recent Netflix Documentary, The Gambler and His Cowboys, Jones said he had no such plan:
“I’m often asked the question, ‘Why don’t I hire a general manager?’ I’ve had people that said, ‘Jerry, you subject yourself to so much criticism. You need a buffer.’
“I don’t like it like that. I like the pain.”
And why would he? Despite the lack of title wins, the venture has been incredibly profitable for him. The Cowboys are considered the most valuable brand in world sports, and Jones’ net worth is $16.1 billion. More than double his $5 billion from 2016.

Jerry Jones’ most recent gaffe: Micah Parsons
The most recent pain point for the Cowboys fans is Jerry Jones’ questionable handling of Micah Parsons’ contract extension. The star linebacker alleges that he attempted to reach out to the franchise on this matter, but they ignored his request. Then he put in a trade request with Jerry Jones himself, but didn’t get an answer.
The situation escalated to Parsons airing his complaints on X in early August.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that Micah Parsons will soon leave the Dallas Cowboys:
“You can’t get a deal done, if you’re not even talking. The two sides haven’t had any negotiations since late March or early April. It sounds like at this point it’s personal…” Schefter said. “…Now, have other people put those feelings aside in the past and figured out a way to work out a deal? Yeah. I don’t see that happening here. I see these two sides headed towards divorce in time. The only question is, when is that divorce going to happen, and how is it going to happen?”

It’s very difficult to see a player who felt neglected enough to go on X to air his grievances, going back to the negotiation table. It seems like the Cowboys have burned any bridges they once had with Parsons.
