Will Carson Beck pull off the Cam Ward at Miami? That’s what fans and analysts alike are wondering. The former Georgia quarterback pulled the brakes on joining the NFL this year, and instead decided to return for a final year of college football, transferring to Miami. A similar strategy to that of this year’s first overall pick of the NFL Draft: Tennessee Titans’ Cam Ward.
Beck’s career seemingly derailed after suffering an injury halfway through the 2024 SEC championship game against Texas last year. When he went down with an injury, while Georgia was losing to Texas, backup Gunner Stockton took over from him, and the team galvanized behind him. The elbow injury also meant that Beck didn’t feature in the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff encounter against Notre Dame.
Asked about how he feels entering Week 1 following offseason surgery, Miami QB Carson Beck said: “I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been. … I feel like I’m in a great spot mentally, physically and just all around.”

Like that, his time at Georgia was over. Speaking with the South Florida Sun Sentinel ahead of the start of the season this week, the quarterback made it clear he’s extremely grateful for the opportunity:
“I’m super excited,” Beck said. “And it’s been so long since I’ve had the opportunity to go out on a football field and play the game I love. And now for it to be here at The U with these guys that obviously I’ve become really close with over the past eight months, it’s an opportunity that you don’t get many of them, right? Guaranteed we have 12 of these opportunities, and you work the rest of the year for those 12 opportunities. So you never take them for granted.”
Beyond that, Carson Beck also made it clear that he feels ‘Canes fans will get to see the best version of him yet.
“I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been,” Beck said. “I’m in a great mindset, mentality. The guys around me have been working their tails off, and we’ve all been working really hard together. So again, I’m really excited for the opportunity to just go out and compete. But I feel like I’m in a great spot mentally, physically and just all around.”

Who does Carson Beck play in his season opener with Miami?
Carson Beck and the U face a difficult season opener against No. 6 Notre Dame on Saturday night. The Hurricanes are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation, making this game one of the must-watch encounters of Week 1 of college football. The silver lining for Miami is that they’re playing on home turf, at Hard Rock Stadium.
The game is a toss-up for the oddsmakers, with ESPN Bet currently having the Fighting Irish as 2.5-point favorites. The game will air on ABC.
