“He Was Made for This”: Hugh Freeze’s Daughters Pay Heartfelt Tribute As Auburn HC Gets Fired Amid 4–5 Record in 2025

Auburn Football’s head coach was fired this Sunday amid a difficult 4–5 season for the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Freeze’s daughters provided unwavering support for their father on social media.

Madison Freeze and Ragan Freeze Reynolds posted heartfelt tributes, sharing messages of gratitude and love. The posts came just hours after the news broke.

Madison Freeze posted an image to her Instagram story showing her standing alone on the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium. She captioned the story as follows:

“We believed in Auburn and loved it. Grateful to stand where we stand. Thank you, Auburn. Here’s to new beginnings 🧡”, Madison wrote.

Her sister, Ragan Freeze Reynolds’ story, featured a touching post which included a photo of her smiling and looking up at her father.

Coach Freeze stood beside her on the field, smiling as Ragan captioned her story as:

“My hero. He was made for this”

Auburn dismissed Freeze this Sunday, with Athletic Director John Cohen announcing the decision.

The final straw was a home loss to Kentucky, as the defeat dropped the Tigers’ season record to 4–5 while their conference record fell to a dismal 1–5.

Freeze’s tenure lasted just under three seasons, finishing with an overall record of 15–19.

In his time at Auburn, Freeze managed only a 6–16 record in conference games.

Cohen announced a leadership change for the season’s remainder as defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will serve as interim coach.

Freeze Set to Receive $15.8 Million Buy-Out Amidst Auburn Firing

The decision to fire Freeze is a costly one, as the reports indicate the sum could reach $15.8 million.

The buyout is reportedly not subject to mitigation or an offset, meaning Freeze gets the full amount, irrespective of whether he accepts another job next season.

However, the buyout sum is relatively low compared to Freeze’s coaching counterparts who got fired this season. Brian Kelly and James Franklin have definitely contributed to one of college football’s most expensive seasons as far as buyouts are concerned, costing LSU and Penn State $54 million and $49 million, respectively.
