How Much Will Miami Earn for Making CFP Final?

The Miami Hurricanes have become the first team to qualify for the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship game this season. The Carson Beck-led group defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 31-27 in the Fiesta Bowl College Football Semifinal.

Apart from being a proud moment, the Hurricanes are in line to benefit financially, thanks to the CFP’s payout structure and a unique ACC revenue-sharing rule.

How Much Miami Stands To Earn After Making the CFP Final?

Under the current 12-team College Football Playoff format, the postseason payouts are based on how far the team advances. These are as follows:

    • $4 million for making the CFP field
    • $4 million for a quarterfinal win
    • $6 million for reaching the semifinals
    • $6 million for advancing to the national championship

Moreover, every team receives around $3 million per round to compensate for travel and participation stipends.

Since the Hurricanes have made it to the end, they have already earned $20 million from performance-based payouts alone. On top of that, the program has also earned an xtra $3 million for every CFP round.

How Much Money Miami Will Retain Under Current ACC Structure?

Every conference has its own payout model based on its performance in the season. Miami falls in the Atlantic Coast Conference; therefore, its payout will be based on the conference’s policy.

Under the ACC’s updated revenue distribution model, the school gets to keep 100% of the CFP money it has earned. Earlier, conferences did centralized revenue-sharing of CFP payouts.

Due to the new policy, Miami will enjoy the whole of $20 million.

Now, Miami will wait to see who between Indiana and Oregon emerge winner in the other CFP semifinal in Peach Bowl.

It was a roller-coaster ride for Miami in the playoffs. They were outside the playoff spots, and in the second-to-last CFP rankings, they were even behind Notre Dame, even though they defeated the Fighting Irish in the head-to-head regular-season matchup. However, after CFP feared no ACC participation, they put Miami over Notre Dame again, leading to a debate among college football experts about who should have made the cut.

Meanwhile, Miami did no wrong after qualifying for the playoffs. They first defeated No. 7 Texas A&M before taking down defending champions Ohio State Buckeyes to reach the Fiesta Bowl, where they defeated the Rebels.
