Houston vs Colorado: Box Score, Stats, and Summary Ft. Ryan Staub (Week 3)

The Colorado Buffaloes locked horns with the Houston Cougars at TDECU Stadium on Friday. Both teams came into this game with a winning momentum. While Colorado humbled Delaware, Houston won their second straight game against Rice. However, Colorado lost their season opener against Georgia Tech.

Colorado changed their starting quarterback for this game. They removed Kaidon Salter from the position and went with veteran Ryan Staub, who was great in limited action against Delaware. Meanwhile, Houston continued with Conner Weigman.

The game is nicely poised at halftime. Colorado, which failed to score even a single point in the first quarter, exploded for 14 points in the second. Meanwhile, Houston has scored one touchdown and three field goals to lead the game 16-14.

Colorado Buffaloes Vs Houston Cougars Summary

After Deion Sanders called Colorado’s defense “hot garbage” after the first quarter, the Buffaloes handled themselves in the second half by not allowing Houston to reach the endzone. However, the Cougars still managed to score six points, thanks to two successful field goal attempts.

Houston made the first splash on the scorecard when kicker Ethan Sanchez drilled a 52-yard field goal. On the next offensive drive, Houston managed their way to the endzone, with the play capped by running back Dean Connors’ 4-yard rushing touchdown.

Sanchez started the second quarter with a 43-yard field goal after Colorado’s defense held on 4th down. Colorado finally broke loose when Simeon Price ran for a 38-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to just six.

The Cougars extended their lead with Sanchez’s third field goal of the half, a 47-yarder. Just before halftime, chaos hit. Ryan Staub scrambled 19 yards, but he fumbled near the goal line. Zach Atkins scooped it up and scored on a 1-yard return touchdown to cut the deficit to just two.
