Finally, after three rounds, breakout 2024 Arizona State RB prospect Cam Skattebo has found his NFL home. The New York Giants selected him 105th overall with the third pick of the 4th Round.
Sure, it took a couple more rounds than expected—College Sports Network has him ranked as the 48th-best player on the big board—but he should enter a positive environment with a team in need of a solid running back. But why did the Sun Devils rusher slide?

Despite Monster Season, Did Cam Skattebo Have Too Many Red Flags?
The last day of the 2025 NFL Draft began on Saturday with a few notable college players still on the board, including running back Cam Skattebo of Arizona State. The lack of
immediate interest in the Rio Lindo, California native may be tied to a couple of situations that NFL teams view as red flags.
The main red flag cited by scouts is his athleticism. Skattebo made his name as a power runner in his last two years as a Sun Devil, culminating in a senior season of 1,711 yards gained while scoring 21 touchdowns, second in yardage only behind Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty. Skattebo finished fifth in the voting for the prestigious award.
He also turned in a stellar performance in the Peach Bowl against the Texas Longhorns,
being named the game’s Offensive MVP despite Arizona State losing, as he had 271 yards
(143 rushing, 86 receiving, 42 passing) along with scoring two touchdowns, one passing touchdown, and a two-point conversion.
His lack of elusiveness and stiff-necked power may limit him to short-term roles, and some teams might prefer to have the roster slot filled with someone who’d give them more time on the field.
And that issue is compounded by the depth of running backs available in this year’s draft.

Regardless, Skattebo finally heard his name call on Saturday. He’ll be joining a Giants running back room that already includes projector starter Devin Singleterry, along with Tyrone Tracy Jr., Eric Gray, and Dante Miller.
As for the quarterback, Russell Wilson is likely to start, with Jameis Winston and 2025 draftee Jaxson Dart taking snaps as backups.
