The last year of Jim Harbaugh in charge of the Michigan Wolverines was rocky to say the least. The coach was suspended for half the regular season, three games at the start of the year, and three at the end of it. The first was a self-imposed suspension due to NCAA recruitment rules violations, and the second was a ban by the Big Ten for the sign-stealing scandal surrounding the Wolverines’ coaching staff.
Yet despite this, Michigan proved to be the most resilient program in the nation, with Harbaugh closing out his tenure at the school with a Big Ten title and a national championship.
However, his reputation took a toll, and he moved to the NFL, according to some, to avoid a lifetime ban in coaching at the college level. However, he wasn’t the only one affected by the rocky manner in which his time at Michigan ended; members of his family, his daughter in particular, were emotionally affected.
At the time, shortly after the Big Ten suspended his father, Grace Harbaugh wrote on Instagram:
“The other day I was talking to my dad on the phone,” Grace Harbaugh posted on Instagram.” I asked how he was doing, and to that he replied: “I am only doing as well as the people who I love are doing: family, my team, and my chickens.” (yes, he has chickens).
“Oftentimes I think we have an idea of who people are, before we even know them or understand thins fully,” she said. “People know my dad to be incredible headstrong, stubborn and unapologetically himself. They’re not wrong.”

Jim Harbaugh Expects His Players To Win Major Accolades This Season
Harbaugh brought immediate improvement to the Los Angeles Chargers after taking over head coach duties in 2024. That same year, he took them to the playoffs. Now things are looking even better, as the team has started its season with a perfect 3-0 record.
Jim Harbaugh: “If they’re ever talking about MVP consideration — Justin Herbert.”
“If they’re talking about defensive player of the year — Derwin James.”
Compared James and Herbert to players like LeBron, Michael Jordan, and Kobe.

Harbaugh is so confident about his Chargers this year that he expects his players to be in the conversation for major accolades. Speaking on Monday in an interview after their latest victory against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Harbaugh said the following:
“If they’re ever talking about MVP consideration — Justin Herbert,” Harbaugh said, per ESPN’s Kris Rhim.
“If they’re talking about defensive player of the year — Derwin James,” Harbaugh added.
There’s much of the season yet to go, but the Chargers are looking better than they have in years. Their next game is this Sunday, against the New York Giants on the road at MetLife Stadium at 1:00 p.m. ET.
