Former Penn State star Abdul Carter was selected by the New York Giants with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. In his preseason debut on Saturday, he played well and earned praise from many members of the media.
On Saturday, former NFL cornerback Herm Edwards, who last played for the LA Rams, appeared on SportsCenter. On the show, he was asked what stands out about Edwards and what makes him great.
“Well, his hand use and his ability to work his body,” Herm Edwards said (2:00). “He’s a big man, but he looks like he only weighs about 215 pounds the way he moves his body. Very athletic, and this is why you draft a guy this high in the first round. I mean, he can get after the quarterback. He never plays in one position. You know, you can put him on the end, you can put him inside.”
“And what they’ll do, they’ll game plan when the season starts in certain situations and put him on certain players on offense when you need to put pressure on the quarterback. He can be on the guard. He could be on the tackle. You can put him anywhere on the line of scrimmage,” he added.
SportsCenter host David Lloyd then responded, comparing Carter to Dallas Cowboys superstar defensive end Micah Parsons.
“Think about the Giants’ D-line. I mean, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and then you bring in this guy as well. Comparisons to Micah Parsons. They both wore the No. 11 at Penn State. That’s going to be a scary front.”

Giants HC Brian Daboll Praises Abdul Carter Following His Preseason Debut
Abdul Carter was one of two NY Giants first-round picks this year, along with QB Jaxson Dart. Both players performed well and earned praise from head coach Brian Daboll. He credited Carter for generating pressure, although he admitted he needed to go back and watch film to make a proper assessment of his performance.
As for Dart, Daboll lauded him for how he operated the offense, and was happy he was able to get practice with the two-minute drill. Both Carter and Dart will get another chance to practice before the start of the season next week in a preseason matchup against the New York Jets.
