F1 has found itself linked to the renewed public conversation surrounding the Epstein Files after the United States Department of Justice released a fresh set of documents.
The latest disclosures, tied to long-running legal proceedings involving the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, have triggered widespread scrutiny of the networks of influence, wealth and power connected to his inner circle. While the documents do not directly establish guilt, they have reignited debates across multiple industries, including F1.
The world of F1 has historically operated within elite financial and social environments, where senior figures, team owners and commercial powers often move in the same high-profile circles as political leaders and business magnates.
That overlap has now brought several prominent F1 names into the broader discussion sparked by the document release, highlighting how interconnected influential communities can be beyond the sporting arena.
With this context in mind, here is a closer look at the notable figures connected to the F1 paddock whose names have appeared in the Epstein Files.
All Prominent F1 Names That Have Appeared in the Epstein Files
Flavio Briatore
Alpine F1 advisor Flavio Briatore’s name has been found in what has been referred to as the “Epstein black book”, a contact list maintained by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Multiple reports have suggested that the Italian businessman had a working relationship with Epstein.
His former partner, British model Naomi Campbell, has also stated that Briatore introduced her to Epstein at her 31st birthday party, establishing a personal link between the two men if true [via The Standard].
Briatore is no stranger to controversy, having played a central role in one of F1’s biggest scandals, Crashgate. As Renault team principal, he was involved in the decision that saw Nelson Piquet Jr deliberately crash to benefit Fernando Alonso at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Bernie Ecclestone
Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has also been mentioned in the newly released Epstein Files, which include thousands of emails. The Times reported that messages on the Department of Justice website suggest that British MP Peter Mandelson met with Ecclestone after speaking with Epstein about a potential deal to buy the Silverstone Circuit.
Epstein was reportedly attempting to support a consortium led by now-Chelsea FC chairman Todd Boehly, which was interested in purchasing the venue.
Eddie Irvine
Eddie Irvine also appears in the “Epstein black book.” The former F1 driver admitted in 2020 that he was likely listed, as he knew Ghislaine Maxwell and had met and socialized with her on multiple occasions in the US [via the Belfast Telegraph].
Following his F1 career, Irvine moved within the “rich-man” social circles after building significant wealth through investments.
Lawrence Stroll
Aston Martin F1 owner Lawrence Stroll has been referenced in emails from the Epstein Files. One message addressed to Maxwell names him among attendees at a lunch at Epstein’s New York home.
Another email from Stroll’s wife, Claire-Anne, thanks Maxwell for a stay in Mustique, which is an island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean Sea, the same body of water as the infamous Epstein Island. She thanked Maxwell for the “magnificent photo of Lawrence and Chloe.”
Jacques Villeneuve
Several reports suggest former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve appears in Epstein’s contact list, though no further details about any connection have emerged.
Jean Todt
Former Ferrari and FIA boss Jean Todt’s name has also appeared in one of the emails from the Epstein Files. In an email dated November 2013, a man named Olivier Colom told Epstein that he was going to dinner with Todt. The email suggests that Todt and Epstein had never met or known each other, at least prior to the aforementioned correspondence.
David Coulthard
Former Red Bull F1 driver David Coulthard has also appeared in the Epstein Files. An email exchange between him and former NASCAR driver Brian Vickers has surfaced, which shows Coulthard helping arrange accommodation for Vickers’ “business partners” for the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix, believed to be Epstein.
While Brian Vickers’ links to Epstein have been made public recently, there is no evidence that Coulthard knew the partner’s identity.
